Congratulations to Emily Laughlin, RN, BSN, for winning the DAISY Award for the second quarter of 2019! The DAISY Award is a national program that honors registered nurses for great clinical skill and leadership along with strong patient care and compassion.
Emily was nominated after caring for a hospice patient who was waiting for a hospice bed. The patient was alert and oriented and he and Emily struck up a relationship. She bathed him, gave him personal hygiene care and spent time talking with him. Later in the shift, the patient took a turn for the worse. Emily spoke with the family over the phone on more than one occasion to keep them informed. She sat down beside the patient, held his hand and read the Bible to him as she waited for the family. Unfortunately, the family did not arrive in time, but the patient did not pass alone as Emily had stayed by his side.
Emily, a resident of Fort Worth, has been with Texas Health Huguley working in the PCU for five years. She earned her BSN from Southwestern Adventist University. Thank you, Emily, for serving patients like those you love the most!
