Expert Medical Staff to Address Your Individual Needs
At Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, our expert team of specially trained physicians and support staff are available to address your problem wounds. They understand that many factors may delay or prevent the healing of your wounds. With this in mind, the wound care team performs a complete history and physical exam which allows them to develop an individualized treatment plan unique to each patient's needs.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO)
Sometimes your wounds will not respond to general wound care treatments alone. For some patients, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is an effective technology that supplements the other treatment methods used by physicians. HBOT therapy involves daily visits to the wound center for a period of approximately 4-8 weeks, then follow-up wound care to monitor healing progress. During HBOT therapy you are placed in a pressurized chamber where you breathe 100% oxygen. This increases the presence of oxygen within the wound and thus aids in healing and growth of new tissue.
Not all insurance plans approve the use of HBOT for all diagnoses.
- How Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Work
-
During hyperbaric oxygen therapy, you are placed in a pressurized chamber where you breathe 100% oxygen. This increases the presence of oxygen that can be delivered to the wound and thus aids in healing and growth of new tissue. Depending upon the reason for your referral to hyperbaric medicine, the therapy will be used based on your specific needs which may provide one or more of the following benefits:
- Advanced wound healing
- Increased oxygen delivery to the injured tissue
- Greater blood vessel formation
- Improved infection control
- Preservation of damaged tissues
Your planned treatment course will be discussed with you in detail prior to starting therapy.
- Conditions That May Benefit From Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
-
Hyperbaric oxygen treatment is an important therapy offered at our center. Patients who are approved by their insurance for hyperbaric treatments breathe 100% oxygen for a prescribed amount of time. The purpose of hyperbaric oxygen treatment is to increase the amount of oxygen in all body tissues so healing can take place. Conditions that may benefit from hyperbaric oxygen treatment are:
- Arterial Ulcers
- Carbon monoxide poisoning
- Chronic wounds
- Compromised grafts and flaps
- Crush injuries
- Diabetes-related foot and ankle ulcers
- Gangrene
- Necrotizing soft tissue infections
- Non-healing surgical/traumatic wounds
- Osteomyelitis
- Post-radiation tissue injury
- Pressure ulcers
- Radiation necrosis
- Venous stasis or arterial insufficiency ulcers
- Wounds caused by poor circulation or trauma
